Peebles: Part 2 of 4

The Memorial Garden, Northgate, Peebles. All photograph's in this series were taken by Lynda Braithwaite.
Peebles in the third largest town in the Scottish Borders, occupying both banks of the River  Tweed. The town motto is 'Against the stream they multiply.'

Old Walls and Tower. (See next photo).

The Market Cross was moved to its present position in 1964-65, a few yards east of the former site, and mounted on a new stepped pedestal.

Many years ago George Pennel opened a cycle shop here. The courtyard is owned by the Royal Bank of Scotland and was originally occupied by Wilson Syme Bakers and Tearoom. That was demolished in the 1970s to allow for the building on the Bank.
