Grasmere: Part 1 of 2

It was a wet, overcast and dark day, when I took this set of photographs in Grasmere. Hence there were not too many people to be seen! 

Look how dark it was, and this was at midday! 

Heavy rain clouds overhead. 

The main road through Grasmere, almost deserted.

Despite the umbrellas, a group of tourists gather outside the Sarah Nelson Gingerbread shop.

Borrans Park

Borrans Park is situated between Waterhead and Ambleside, with views along Lake Windermere. 

Although a relatively small Park, there are plenty of photographic opportunities such as above. 

A cold-looking Lake Windermere framed by the end of one of the shelters. 

The Youth Hostel at Waterhead. 

This has appeared in the Park in recent times. It looks somewhat out of place. See photo below.

Cardrona Station

Cardrona railway station, near Peebles, was opened in October 1864, on the route to Innerleithen. The service ran until the line was closed in February 1962. Much of the original station still stands, and used for other purposes, as will be seen in  this set of photographs, taken by Lynda Braithwaite.

Instead of the railway, there is now a bus service, seen passing Cardrona.  

The bus shelter and part of the road is now on the former trackbed, in front of the old station platform!

Lancaster Castle Area: Part 2 of 2

There are many fine old buildings in the area around Lancaster Castle.
